Website to display current version

David Marcus 4 years ago updated by Lior Kerner 4 years ago 6

My licensed copy says to check the website for latest version information.

I don't see anywhere on the website where it displays the current version.

The only way appears to do a download where it tells you what version is about to be downloaded. This is not a good way.

Ideally, my licensed copy should check (from within Visual Studio) whether there is an update and offer to me the option of upgrading to latest copy.

Hi there!

Our v2.1 beta program has been superseded by our Early Access Preview program - You can read about the original release here and the subsequent one over here, and you can register to try this latest revision right here.

The current specific version of the OzCode EAP is 2.0.0.1826

Same here. I am trying to check for updates but don't know how.

Hi David!

OzCode does have an auto-update mechanism, but it's very discrete - it only tells you there's a new version when you close down Visual Studio. However we are aware that this is not documented properly and we'll definitely make improvements on that front.

The current version of OzCode is v2.0.0.1029, but you are also invited to try v2.1 beta which you can read about and download from the following blog article: http://o.oz-code.com/announcing-ozcode-v2.1-beta

A couple of things:

[1] Regardless of the update mechanism, your website should indicate the current version... it makes your customers happy and its the professional thing to do.

[2] The fact that the plug-in checks for an update when I close down Visual Studio is, politely, almost useless. In my case the only time I get out of VS is when I apply Microsoft Updates that require a reboot. Otherwise I live inside VS.

[3] I suggest that the plug-in should show me a menu item that checks for an update and downloads and applies the update if I agree. If I then have to restart VS to have the new version take effect, so be it.

[4] It would be nice (i.e., not mandatory) if I could specify to the plug-in how often I want it to check for an update (perhaps every day, every week, ...) and it will take care of the rest.

Hi again David and thanks for elaborating and for your suggestions.

You are absolutely right that the proper documentation for our versions, and a maintained changelog should be added to our website and we will definitely improve this in the near future.

Regarding the update mechanism, in a future version we are aiming to leverage automatic updates for Visual Studio extensions (see here), which will make the process totally transparent. Once we integrate with the VS auto update capabilities, OzCode will be kept automatically updated, much like Google Chrome, Android apps, etc.

Hello Lior,

The link 'http://o.oz-code.com/announcing-ozcode-v2.1-beta is the download for version 2.0.0.1826.

Is this correct?
