Allow to search a object without having the mouse over the tooltip

Micah Armantrout 8 years ago updated by Omer Raviv (CTO) 6 years ago 1
It would be nice if you could search a object a value and not have to have the mouse hover over the tool tip all the time. I have a object that pretty big and I want to be able to do other things while its searching. I moved my mouse and it stopped searching, I thought it was broke cause the complex object I was searching through.

You can now 'Pin' the variable to the code editor, and then have the Search run in the background:

Also, the performance of the Search feature has been radically improved in version 0.9.3618.4910, so there will now be less of a need to have the Search run in the background.

Hi Micah, thank you for your feedback.

In general, the mouse doesn't have to hover over the data-tip at all - once you start a search, BugAid's data-tip will only goes away after you actually click somewhere outside of it.

If you'd like to decrease the chance that you'd accidentally cause it to disappear while the search is still going on, you can use the search from BugAid's QuickWatch (Shift+F9).

As for your idea of being able to run a search in the background while doing other things - that is a great idea, but quite complex to implement because in Visual Studio, all debugger evaluations inherently tie up the UI thread. That being said, we'll definitely consider it for a future version of BugAid.
